Telling Tales – Fantasy and Fear in Contemporary Design

Inspiration can come from wherever for me, some creatives have a specific vision and signature which is usually dictated by their upbringing or education but regardless of class and education the V&A; has got to be inspiring for any creative mind. The latest show Telling Tales i think particularly appeals to me as it focuses on a narrative or fantasy in design. As much as many commercial glossy magazines publish inspiring trend stories, i really love seeing big Italian Vogue, W or V stories that inspire you on a visual imaginary journey ….we many not all be able to by the £8,000 coat or dress but a good rummage around in the charity shops or ebay always brings something similar which channels that vibe. For example my high waisted leather shorts that were jeans i bought on ebay….( attempt *2 as the 99p ones i ditched, the pleather version was just the wrong side of Margiela)

Great to see Florence at the opening rocking out A/W Richard Sorger who has also been selected to feature in the show by the V&A;, how serendipitous…..

Worth a mention by itself the courtyard at the V&A; is like being in Italy always worth a sojourn even if you don’t smoke…..i returned there on Friday to see Barbara Hulaniki film, some ladies were drinking Prosecco as the evening sun shimmered on the fountain, i took a picture with my mental camera, who knows where it might end up…….

GRAZIA – The Fashion Charts 10 RICHARD SORGER “Label Alert! Brit designer Richard Sorger is all about dramatic embellishment and clean silhouettes. This simple and sexy top is the last word in understated chic.”

Richard and i have been working/laughing/crying together for a bit and so i’m not surprised and more that a little excited to see others starting to fly the flag……RJS RJS RJS RJS

Fashion and Style seem to me such a personal thing, about body shape, imagination and personal history all which may sound a strange statement from a ‘Stylist’ (ie someone who manufactures a momentary notion about someone through their clothes). The computer and the internet being the antitehsis of personal and in a way also of designing and imagining beautiful clothes as so much is about the senses : the view, the feel, (i would note the smell but that’s only if you shop in Primark and i don’t), through a wool you can be prim, silk for slinking etc what you wear can control your mood and the way your respond to people. So i am surprised, really joyfully and inspirationally, to look at Susie Bubble’s blog today for the first time and love it. She wrote a piece on all things Sorger and as aforementioned one of my friends sounding boards and errr clients she came bursting into my life today bringing humor, charm and an admirable penchent for dressing how the hell she likes.

I’ve heard about her through fashion PR’s though in my ignorant bliss dismissed it as a vanity project of a girl who just liked dressing up. Today i had a moment, a Ziggy lighning flash down my face kinda moment. The Fashion Industry cynicism fog cleared in my head i thought you know that was how I got into this whole mutli coloured many shoed mess in the first place. A girl who liked to Dress Up. I am new to my blog, i haven’t pre-emted or fully formulated what my raision d’etre online is, barr ranting and just writing, but she is an inspiration. I’ll be doing a Susie Bubble homage next time i go out, how the cycles get smaller eh, ten years or ten mins? You only as young as the vintage you are wearing
